How to boost your baby's immune system

As a parent, you want to do whatever it takes to keep your baby healthy and strong. An important part of this is boosting your baby's immune system to protect against infection and disease.

Make sure your baby is getting enough nutrients, especially vitamin C and zinc. This can be achieved through a balanced diet or supplements where appropriate, but always seek the advice of your pediatrician.

Zinc and vitamin C are important nutrients for the immune system. Zinc can be found in foods like meat, fish, legumes, nuts and seeds. Vitamin C is found in fresh fruits and vegetables such as peppers, oranges, kiwi, pineapple and broccoli.

Some examples of foods that contain both zinc and vitamin C are chicken, beef, lentils, almonds, peppers and oranges.

However, it's important to note that babies shouldn't have solid foods yet, and it's best to feed them breast milk or formula until they're at least 6 months old. Talk to your pediatrician if you plan on giving your baby solid foods early, and make sure you're getting the recommended amounts of vitamins and minerals to avoid the risk of overdose.

Fresh air and the necessary hygiene and rest

Promote a hygienic environment for your baby by washing your hands regularly, keeping the area clean, and making sure your baby gets enough fresh air and exercise.

Encourage regular relaxation and sleep to support your baby's immune system. A well-rested body is better able to fight off infections. Avoid undue stress and encourage your baby to exercise and play regularly. Exercise and play promote blood circulation and support the immune system.
