Traveling during pregnancy - 5 tips you should keep in mind!

5 valuable tips for a relaxing and thoughtful holiday during your pregnancy!

1) Medical advice

Before you start your trip, you should get comprehensive advice from your family doctor about possible risks! He can give you competent information and knows about certain area-dependent diseases such as malaria etc. and tells you how you can best protect yourself!

2) Take out travel health insurance!

Be sure to take out travel health insurance before you leave. If you are not feeling well or have had an accident, the costs of treatment or medication will be covered by your insurance. Remember that a living being is growing inside you and it depends on your health!

3) The maternity passport

Always have your maternity card with you and, if possible, make sure you have a good connection to the doctor! It is recommended to choose accommodation that is close to a doctor's office or, if necessary, very easy to reach!

4) Avoid extreme heat and high loads

You should avoid great exertion, excessive heat and altitudes above 2,500m. The additional, unusual stress is dangerous because you are already under a lot of stress during pregnancy. Nevertheless, it is recommended. Stay outside, because vitamin D, which is extremely important, is mainly absorbed through the sun's rays. 10-20 minutes in the sun can be alternated with periods of shade (depending on the degree of tanning).

5) Food selection

In warm countries you should not eat half-cooked meat or dishes with raw eggs (tiramisu, mayonnaise, ice cream). Because these can be harmful to your baby if they are contaminated. Therefore, for the sake of your baby, play it safe. Under no circumstances should you drink water from the tap. Always have a packaged water (PET bottle) served to you or ask the hotel/restaurant for a packaged bottle of water or where you can get it!
